Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Glass Duo

I know a lot of musicians from the years I ran a live music venue, and I can honestly say I never saw a single muso do anything other than drink (and drink and drink and drink and drink…and drink) out of a wine glass. So it was a bit of a surprise to learn about Glass Duo, who not only don’t drink out of the wine glasses they use – they only ever put water in them. Unheard of in my group of mates!

Glass Duo is made up of an ex-violinist and ex-trumpeter who quit the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra when they worked out they preferred the rims of glasses to the orchestra pit. Funnily though, their act has become so popular they now regularly play gigs accompanied by symphony orchestras like the Warsaw Philharmonic. What goes around comes around, hey?

Anyway, I saw this video early last year of them performing Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and it’s become one of my favourite obsessions when I’m needing a bit of inspiration. Tonight is one of those nights, so I thought I’d share it with you.

I hope it boosts your brain and charges your creativity the way it does mine 🙂

Check out more of this quirky duo’s stuff on their website.
